EVENT: Winona XC Ski Team Fundraiser Dinner and Auction

DATE/TIME: Saturday, November 12, 2011 6:00 PM

LOCATION: Toner Hall, St. Mary’s University, Winona, MN 55987

GREAT ITEM TO BID ON:  Four Course Dinner for Six at Chez Bosworth/Sanborn

As the weather is getting cooler, it’s the time of year that we in Winona see our XC skiers out and about on their roller skis, training for the upcoming winter season.  This is also the time of year that our local supporters of XC skiers and XC trails have an annual fundraiser auction.

I spent a fair share of my teenage youth training for and racing XC skiing when I grew up in New Hampshire and Maine, at GHS then at Gould Academy (on rollerskis and rollerblades, even- they were around back then!) So when I was asked by a friend and parent of a current team member to donate to their cause, I was delighted to help.  I offered a five course dinner for six.  I am donating the dinner again this year,  since everyone involved had fun last year.  I expect I’ll be able to enlist actual ski team members to be waiters again this year.  The menu is custom, based on the needs/wants of the highest bidder, though the cuisines I am best at are those of Mediterranean countries.  I like a good excuse to flex my charcuterie muscles, too.   To get you interested in donating, here is a selection of photos from last year’s meal, by course:

Course One: Home cured Guanciale and Duck Proscuitto, with Pickled Asparagus and Dilly Beans

After an appertivo of guanciale, duck proscuitto, dilly beans and pickled asparagus, we moved along to the second course, which was Paella with shrimp and Spanish chorizo:

After the Paella course, there was a mixed grill of homemade Merguez (lamb sausage) from lamb raised at O’Neill Family Farms in Rushford, MN, and a Red Wattle pig pork chop (raised by Pork and Plants of Altura, MN), served with fresh peas and a wine poached pear:

Finally, we finished up with Chocolate Pots de Creme with Raspberries.

Finally, something pretty sweet

We finished the meal with some Italian after dinner drinks and espressos.

Please consider this event… You’ll even get to meet Todd Lodvick, of Nordic Combined fame!  And bid early and often.  I promise you your evening at our house will be terrific.
